DWB Consulting Services Ltd. is seeking a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership capabilities and extensive experience in prescribing and installing sediment and erosion control measures for a wide variety of sectors including oil and gas, hydroelectric, transportation, mining and pipelines.
Location: This position is based out of our Prince George office.
Work Type: This position involves a combination of office and fieldwork with travel to remote locations.
Compensation: Compensation is dependent on experience level with an expected range of $32- $50 per hours worked plus travel, professional dues, benefits, vacation pay, RRSP program and more.
Duties
Key Responsibilities
Field and Technical Work:
- Lead a team of erosion professionals and labourers to implement and audit sediment and erosion control programs.
- Prepare, review, and update Erosion and Sediment Control Plans (ESCPs) in accordance with provincial standards and project-specific environmental management plans.
- Ensure ESC measures comply with BCER Environmental Protection and Management Guidelines, local government bylaws, and project-specific Environmental Assessment Certificate (EAC) conditions (if applicable).
- Conduct routine site inspections during all phases of construction, particularly during high-risk activities such as vegetation clearing, grading, and earthworks.
- Monitor weather conditions and proactively adjust ESC measures to prevent sediment mobilization and protect sensitive environmental features such as streams, wetlands, and fish-bearing watercourses.
- Oversee the correct installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of best management practices (BMPs) including sediment fencing, diversion ditches, check dams, slope stabilization measures, and temporary stormwater management facilities.
- Ensure ESC measures are in place prior to initiating ground disturbance in proximity to environmentally sensitive areas.
- Coordinate with the environmental team to integrate ESC practices into broader Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements.
- Support project managers with scheduling, budgeting, and client communication
Project Management and Reporting:
- Communicate with BCER inspectors, qualified environmental professionals (QEPs), and First Nations environmental monitors to address field compliance issues.
- Prepare and submit ESC inspection reports, incident notifications, and non-compliance reports as required by regulatory permits and project approvals.
- Provide onsite training to contractors and construction personnel on erosion and sediment control protocols and environmental protection measures
- Assist in environmental permitting and development of environmental management plans.
- Coordinate field logistics, data collection, and quality assurance.
- Support project managers with scheduling and budgeting,
Collaboration and Mentorship:
- Collaborate with DWB’s multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, ecologists, and other biologists, to integrate environmental concerns into larger project plans.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, First Nations, and other key stakeholders to facilitate project success and compliance.
Qualifications
Education:
- Diploma, B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field.
- CPESC certification in good standing.
- Professional designation (RPBio, RPF, PAg or equivalent) is a desirable asset.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting or natural resource sectors.
- Strong field experience in environmental monitoring, erosion and sediment control and reclamation.
- Strong technical understanding of hydrology, slope stability, and erosion processes in BC’s diverse terrain and climates.
- Experience working with government agencies, regulatory bodies, clients, and First Nations on environmental management projects.
- Proven experience in proposal writing, report development and budget management.
- Track record of successfully completing funding applications.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation, including the Water Sustainability Act, Environmental Management Act, and Fisheries Act.
- Excellent data collection, report writing, and technical analysis skills.
- Proficiency in GIS, GPS tools, and other technical software for data analysis and field mapping.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Additional Skills and Assets:
- Field experience operating 4x4 vehicles off-highway and navigating remote terrain.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Ability to work in challenging field conditions and remote locations.
- Willingness to travel and work in varied terrains and weather conditions.
