DWB Consulting Services Ltd. (DWB) is seeking applications for an Environmental Monitor/Technician to join our dynamic team and support environmental projects in southeastern British Columbia. This position is based out of our Cranbrook office. The ideal candidate will provide to be part of a team providing high-quality services to our clients, with a particular focus on construction environmental management.
Compensation: Compensation is dependent on experience level with expected range of $26 – $40/hr plus overtime pay, travel, vacation pay, and more.
Term: The position is seasonal (approximately May through October), but may be extended or transitioned to permanent depending on workloads.
Travel: Some field work and travel throughout southern British Columbia can be expected, but the majority of work will be in the beautiful East Kootenays and southeast British Columbia.
Duties
- Monitor contractor compliance with Environmental Protection Plans (EPP) and Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP).
- Provide Erosion and sediment control (ESC) and environmental advice to construction personnel in the field.
- Understand environmental regulatory requirements and processes in BC.
- Perform fish and wildlife salvages, water quality sampling, nest sweeps, and vegetation surveys.
- Conduct nest/habitat feature monitoring using trail cameras and visual observation.
- Implement environmental management plans, spill response, and revegetation initiatives.
- Install, monitor, and maintain erosion and sediment control devices and stream diversions.
- Develop and apply mitigation measures to minimize environmental impacts.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, proposals, and environmental assessments.
- Work closely with senior biologists and project managers to integrate wildlife fisheries data into comprehensive environmental plans.
- Build positive relationships with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education:
- Diploma or degree in biology, forestry, agriculture, environmental science, or a related field.
- Eligibility for registration as a Registered Biology Technician (RBTech) or Biologist-in-Training (BIT), or be a similar BC-regulated environmental technician or professional is preferred but not required (AAg, FIT).
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years experience as an Environmental Monitor or Environmental Inspector is required, or field experience as an environmental technician.
- Familiarity with fish and wildlife survey techniques, environmental impact assessments, and mitigation planning.
- Designation or training in erosion and sediment control (CPESC, CISEC, BC-CESCL, ESCP) is preferred, but not required
Skills:
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and GIS/mapping tools.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work in challenging outdoor environments and remote locations
- Certification in electrofishing, Swiftwater rescue, or other relevant training is an asset.
- Experience engaging with Indigenous communities and stakeholders
