DWB Consulting Services Ltd. (DWB) is seeking applicants for a full-time Intermediate Biologist (or related Environmental Professional). This position is based out of our Cranbrook office, the ideal candidate will provide leadership, professional guidance and advice to staff, clients, and project management on a broad range of projects in a variety of market sectors and environmental disciplines. The role will be a mix of office and fieldwork and the applicant should enjoy working collaboratively in a demanding, fast paced environment that provides rewarding work opportunities.
Compensation: Compensation is dependent on experience level with expected range of $32 – $50/hr plus overtime, travel, professional dues, benefits, vacation pay, RRSP program and more.
Office or Field: Office and field work. Flexible work schedule, and open to travel and periodic remote shifts lasting 7-10 days.
Travel: Some field work and travel throughout southern British Columbia can be expected, but the majority of work will be in the beautiful East Kootenays and southeast British Columbia.
Duties
- Provide input to, and participate in field data collection and reporting for a broad range of environmental projects in a variety of natural resource sectors.
- Perform fish and wildlife salvages, water quality sampling, nest sweeps, and vegetation surveys.
- Plan and implement follow-up monitoring on wildlife features and species and rare plants.
- Prepare and help implement Environmental Protection Plans (EPP) and Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP), spill response, and revegetation initiatives.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, proposals, and environmental assessments.
- Monitor contractor compliance with EPPs and CEMPs, and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with senior biologists and project managers to integrate wildlife and fisheries data into comprehensive environmental plans, and lead junior biologists and technicians in the field.
- Build positive relationships with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education:
- Degree in biology, forestry, agriculture, environmental science, or a related field.
- Must be registered as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) with the College of Applied Biology (CAB),or eligible to obtain the designation within six (6) months, or be a similar BC- regulated environmental professional (i.e., PAg, RPF).
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated relevant work experience.
- Familiarity with fish and wildlife survey techniques, environmental impact assessments, and mitigation planning.
Skills:
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and GIS/mapping tools.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work in challenging outdoor environments and remote locations
- Certification in electrofishing, Swiftwater rescue, or other relevant training is an asset.
