DWB Consulting Services Ltd. is seeking applications for a full-time Intermediate Biologist to join our team of professionals based out of our Cranbrook office. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership capabilities and extensive experience in managing field-based projects. This position involves a combination of office and fieldwork, with travel expected for field assignments.
Compensation: The pay range for this position is $32–$50 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Duties
The immediate responsibilities of an Intermediate Biologist will include:
- Preparing environmental assessments and management plans in accordance with provincial, territorial and federal regulatory requirements.
- Preparing technical reports, proposals, monitoring summaries, and study designs.
- Fostering positive relationships with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and key stakeholders to ensure compliance and project success.
- Performing field activities such as fish and wildlife salvages, water sampling, pre-disturbance surveys, and vegetation surveys.
- Providing environmental monitoring support on a range of projects (small to large) on active industrial sites.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, permits, and environmental plans, including spill response and re-vegetation.
- Ensuring compliance with all general and site-specific safety requirements, including training requirements, safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assisting in permitting processes, data collection, field logistics, and quality assurance activities.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate environmental considerations into project design and delivery.
- Supervising, training, and mentoring junior biologists to support their technical and professional development.
- Supporting project planning through scheduling, budgeting, and client coordination.
Qualifications
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- BSc. or M.Sc. in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Biology, or a related discipline.
- Professional designation such as RPBio or PAg is required.
- Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience in environmental consulting or the natural resource sector.
- Familiarity with both provincial and federal environmental regulatory processes and permitting requirements.
- Skilled in working with regulatory agencies and stakeholders for environmental compliance.
- Strong safety background, including a solid understanding of WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Strong background in environmental monitoring, erosion and sediment control, and site reclamation.
- Experience with environmental impact assessments (EIAs), environmental management plans (EMPs) and site-specific management plans. Species-specific management planning experience is considered an asset.
- Skilled in both fisheries and wildlife survey techniques: I.e., electrofishing, habitat assessments, avian surveys.
- Excellent communication, relationship building, report writing and technical documentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, GIS, and data analysis software.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Experience operating 4x4 vehicles off-highway (i.e., logging roads and exploration trails).
- Capable of managing fieldwork in remote and challenging environments.
