We are seeking applications for a full-time Junior Environmental Technician-Fisheries & Monitoring to support environmental programs in the Peace Region. This entry-level position provides hands-on experience supporting fisheries and environmental monitoring projects, including work at the Site C Dam and remote field locations.
The ideal candidate will assist with fish and environmental monitoring activities, data collection, reporting, and field logistics while working closely with senior technical staff to support regulatory compliance and environmental protection objectives.
Compensation: The pay range for this position is $20–$34 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Duties
The Immediate responsibilities of a Junior Environmental Technician-Fisheries & Monitoring will include:
- Assisting with fish sampling activities, including electrofishing, netting and trapping
- Supporting fish identification, handling and stream classification activities
- Collecting, recording, and managing field data in accordance with established protocols
- Assisting with equipment preparation, maintenance, and field logistics
- Following safety protocols while working on industrial sites, remote and rugged areas, and in variable weather conditions
- Assisting with basic data entry and reporting
- Working with senior staff to ensure the client is maintaining environmental compliance with relevant permits and plans
- Identifying and documenting potential environmental issues and implementing mitigation measures.
Qualifications
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- Certificate, diploma, or training in fisheries, biology, environmental science, or a demonstrated equivalent fisheries experience.
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors, including travel to remote locations.
- Training or experience in electrofishing, stream classification, boating, or first aid is considered an asset.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
