We are seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Road Restoration Field Lead to join our team of professionals based in our Prince George office to work on a large forest road rehabilitation project. The ideal candidate will have extensive resource road field experience, and will provide leadership, professional guidance, and supervision of sub-contractors. Remote working arrangements will be considered.
Reporting Line:
In this role, you will work under the supervision of a senior project manager, and an experienced RPF/RPBio.
Work Arrangement: This will include a combination of fieldwork and office work, with travel expected for significant portions of the summer as the project area is located south of Vanderhoof. Accommodations are provided in forestry camps and/or remote lodges when in the field.
Compensation: The pay range for this position is $30–$45 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Duties
The immediate responsibilities for the Road Restoration Field Lead will include:
- Investigating target roads within the larger project area to identifying opportunities for road deactivation, rehabilitation and re-stocking to meet project objectives.
- Assisting the project team in preparation of road rehabilitation prescriptions.
- Assessing where prescriptions need extra attention with respect to streams, environmentally sensitive areas, erosion prone areas, wildlife, etc.
- Supervising road rehabilitation sub-contractors during their execution of prescriptions.
Qualifications
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- BSc or MSc in Forestry, Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional designation such as RPF/RFT/PAg/RPBio is an asset.
- Experience supervising operations and heavy-duty equipment from an environmental or forestry perspective (i.e., road construction monitoring experience, harvesting supervision, environmental monitoring).
- Experience with forestry road deactivation and/or rehabilitation work.
- Strong knowledge of forestry and environmental legislation and regulations in BC to ensure legal compliance, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop strategic solutions.
- Knowledge of erosion and sediment control principles is required.
- Experience with stream classifications under the Forest and Range Practices Act.
- Experience with planting prescriptions is considered an asset.
- Bird identification skills and breeding bird/nest survey experience
- Tree and plant species identification skills.
- Proficient in technical reporting and monitoring summaries.
- Proficient in supporting project execution through scheduling, budgeting, and contractor coordination.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license, and experience operating 4x4 vehicles off-highway on busy resource roads.
