We are seeking experienced, full-time Senior Fish and Wildlife Biologists to join our team of professionals. As a subject matter expert, you will help lead a team of skilled professionals, in-training professionals, and technicians; provide professional guidance and advice to staff and clients; and work on a variety of environmental projects across various market sectors and environmental disciplines. This position plays a critical role in our organizational growth and development strategy, and the ideal candidates will have strong leadership capabilities and extensive experience in managing field-based projects.
This position involves a combination of office work and fieldwork, with travel expected for field assignments, and can be based out of one of our main offices in North Vancouver, Chilliwack, Prince George, Terrace, or Fort St. John; however, we are open to basing the position out of one of our other field or remote offices.
Compensation:
The pay range for this position is $40–$70 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Duties
The immediate responsibilities of a Senior Fish or Wildlife Biologist will include:
- Leading fish and/or wildlife research projects, including habitat assessments, species-specific surveys, and monitoring, and providing technical oversight for field crews and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of field programs.
- Promoting a culture of excellence in environmental stewardship and conservation practices within the team.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate environmental considerations into project design and delivery.
- Preparing technical reports, proposals, monitoring summaries, and study designs.
- Promoting and modeling a progressive safety culture and supporting the DWB/CRGL safety program.
- Providing professional guidance to clients, stakeholders, and internal teams on best practices for fish/wildlife management and conservation.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, permits, and environmental plans, including spill response and re-vegetation.
- Lead proposal writing and budget management to ensure the successful execution of projects.
- Providing mentorship and goal-oriented coaching to junior team members to promote internal knowledge transfer and support the organization’s future-ready talent objectives.
Qualifications
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- BSc, MSc, or PhD. in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Biology, or a related discipline.
- Professional designation as RPBio or PBiol, or eligibility to obtain one within six (6) months.
- Minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience in environmental consulting or the natural resource sector.
- Strong and effective relationship-building and networking skills, with the ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with clients, First Nations, regulators, and DWB/CRGL team members.
- Proven project management and organizational skills to coordinate and support team members, manage client expectations, oversee project safety, budgets, and equipment.
- Experience and enthusiasm for mentoring and training team members, with a commitment to supporting professional development.
- Experience with environmental impact assessments (EIAs), particularly those focused on fish and wildlife species and habitats.
- Strong knowledge of British Colombia’s fish and wildlife species ecology and management.
- Ability to review and prepare professional reports, study designs, project proposals and quotes, with expertise in fish and wildlife study design and statistical analysis.
- Experience working with regulatory agencies and stakeholders, with a strong understanding of environmental legislation and regulations in BC to ensure legal compliance, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop strategic solutions.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
