Description

DWB Consulting Services Ltd is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Timber Cruiser to join our dynamic team and support forestry projects across British Columbia. The ideal candidate will bring experience in forest management, cut block boundary and road layout, timber cruising, field data collection, and fieldwork, contributing to impactful forestry outcomes. Duties

  • Conduct, supervise and participate in forest inventory cruises, surveys and field measurements following accepted scientific and operational procedures.
  • Assist and perform technical functions in the preparation of forest management and harvest plans using photogrammetric and mapping techniques and computerized information systems.
  • Implement, supervise and perform technical functions in silvicultural operations involving site preparation, planting, and tending of tree crops.
  • Coordinate activities such as timber scaling, forest fire suppression, disease or insect control or pre-commercial thinning of forest stands.
  • Supervise and perform technical functions in forest harvesting operations.
  • Monitor activities of logging companies and contractors and enforce regulations such as those concerning environmental protection, resource utilization, fire safety and accident prevention.
  • Supervise forest tree nursery operations.

Reporting and Collaboration:

  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports and timber appraisals.
  • Work closely with senior Foresters, Biologists and project managers to integrate wildlife and fisheries data into comprehensive forest site plans.
  • Build positive relationships with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Diploma or degree in Natural Resource Management with a focus on forestry, a related field or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of field experience in related forestry activities
  • Familiarity with timber cruising and related forest survey techniques.
  • Familiar with Forest Planning and Practices Regulation.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and GIS/mapping tools.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work in challenging outdoor environments and remote locations.

 Additional Skills and Assets:

  • Knowledge of provincial and federal forestry and environmental regulations.
  • Eligibility to enroll with Forest Professionals BC is an asset.
